Testing Tips

Testing is probably not your most favourite thing to do. We know you’re really busy and want to get your check over with, but if you take just a few extra seconds to prepare, your check can be more comfortable.

Check the Settings

Look at the grey endcap on Bayer’s MICROLET®2 lancing device. Do you see the five different blood drops? Set the dial to the smallest drop. This setting is for the softest stick and may be the most comfortable. If you don’t get a big enough drop with the dial set on the smallest drop, try the next one.

Wash Your Hands

It’s really important to wash your hands before testing. Plus, using warm water will help get your blood flowing. Dry your hands well.

Let Gravity Help

Take an extra few seconds to drop your arm to your side and shake it. Get the blood flowing down to your fingertips.

Get the blood flowing

Now with your other hand, stroke your hand and finger toward the tip. Your fingertip may get warmer and change colour a bit. This is because more blood is flowing to your fingertip.

Check the dial to be sure it is set on the blood drop size that is best for you. Place Bayer’s MICROLET®2 lancing device gently, but firmly against the side of your fingertip. Don’t place it too close to the fingernail or joint. And be careful not to put it on the tip or in the center of the fingertip pad.

Get a good drop

Remember that the spring action of the lancing device is very fast and it will take a few seconds for the blood to appear. Stroke your hand and finger again toward the puncture site to help a nice size drop to form. This is called "milking." Don’t squeeze your finger because it could keep you from getting a good blood drop.
